Greenhill Leaders and Volunteers (Beavers, Cubs & Scouts)

January 2014

 Dear Parents,

There are some important changes and developments for the 229th Scout Group in the next few months.

Firstly, Steve Winnard will be stepping down as Acting Cub Leader this Easter. Many of you will be aware that Steve has filled the position on a ‘temporary’ basis for some years but he now believes that it is time to stand down – in his own interests and in the overall interests of the Group. Steve will continue to serve as Group Scout Leader and will undoubtedly be able to devote more quality time to this pivotal role within the Group.

Secondly, A new team of Leaders is being put together to run the Cubs from Easter, drawn largely from our thriving Beaver Colony. Tony Behan, Peter Keats, Mark Todd and Brian Thornhill will be working with Jess Hawksworth (our Assistant Cub Leader) to put a full and varied programme together and the copies will be circulated to the Cub parents in advance of each term. Expressions of interest have been made by two parents to help out at Beavers to help fill the gap, but please speak to Cath Batley or Steve Winnard if you may be able to offer some assistance in this area? A regular weekly commitment would be ideal but don’t be put off if this cannot be managed. Flexibility is the key.

Thirdly, it has been decided to move Cubs to Wednesday evenings after the Easter holidays. The new arrangements will start on Wednesday 30 April with Beavers running from 6.15pm to 7.15pm, with the Cubs following on from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. The views of parents have been taken account in making this decision and it is felt that a better team approach will be achieved in the running of Group. This should also result in fewer changes to the family routine when Beavers move on to Cubs! Please speak to any of the leaders if the change is not suitable to you or your son and every effort will be made to maintain your involvement in Scouting. Once the new arrangements start parents are asked not to drive into the church car park for picking up/dropping off purposes, in order to ensure the safety of children during a busy change- over period. Please note however that permission is given to use the Doctors surgery car park next door at this time of day.

Fourthly, we are delighted to inform you that Steve Paine has changed his role within the Group to become Assistant Group Scout Leader and will be working closely with Steve Winnard, with an emphasis on Group development. Steve has served a leader in all three Scouting sections and we will undoubtedly benefit from his wide experience as we aim to move forward as a Group.

Finally can we ask for your continued support as we embark upon the above changes, all in the interests of growing and developing the Group.  Please speak to any of the leaders if you have questions, or if you feel you can help in any way in moving forward. This does not necessarily mean helping out with running the weekly activities. Another important area to develop, for example, is the Groups website (yes we have one of sorts!). Could this be just your cup of tea?

Yours in Scouting
